Saracens 5th Annual Cricket Game

The 5rd annual "Calgary Ashes" took place on Saturday September 15 at the Calgary Irish. After last year's snow out the game took place in perfect weather. Perhaps too perfect for those of us who got rather sunburnt. Following the world cup taking place in South Africa, a 20/twenty format was followed. The Stormin' Normans won the toss and fielded. With good contributions all through the order the unnamed other team scored 121 which appeared to be a reasonable total at the time. It looked a little less reasonable as the Normans powered into their work with the bat and won the game at a canter. Well done them!

Some nice cricket was played with a significant increase in the number of sixes struck. The total of 14 sixes in this match smashed the previous record of 6 set in the 2003 match. The total of 191 by the Stormin Normans was also a new record beating the 182 scored by the Full Tossers, also in 2003. Kevin Bremner became the first player to score the maximum total of 30, beating the previous high score of 29 by Henlo Wiese in the 2005 game. The Canadian performance was particularly impressive as all of the natives showing good form with the bat and Aaron and Dawna producing polished displays behind the stumps. The whole bowling with a straight arm thing remains a challenge.

Below are the best career records in Saracens matches. Michael Seth has taken over the lead in the batting, Paul Jacobs moved up to second and Dawna Morrow up to fifth. To make up for his batting Michael is also by a long way the most expensive bowler having given up 91 runs. Not much movement in the bowling and fielding tables with Steve Pannett making an appearance on the bowling side at number 9 and Stuart McBeth coming into the fielding at number 7.
