We are to be charged $63 per adult and $40 per junior player by the league to cover fees charged by Field Hockey Alberta (FHA) and Field Hockey Canada (FHC). Of the $63 ($40) $33 ($20) is for FHC and $30 ($20) is for FHA. As a club we must pay this fee or our teams will potentially be barred from league play. The club does not have funds to cover the fee so we must collect money from those club members
We must pay the fee for anybody on one of our in the 2007-2008 indoor seasons and probably for others on the 2008 outdoor squads. We will collect the money with the usual team fees.
This fee is on a per-year basis. You only need to pay it once even if you play outdoor, indoor, provincial and/or for multiple teams. If you played in the women's league this summer you probably have already paid the fee and do not need to pay again. The fee will be charged again next year.
We had an excessive surplus from the 2007 outdoor season and will therefore put money towards anybody who paid and played in that season. In that case the fee is $50 for an adult and $30 for a junior.
This fee has not been in evidence before. FHC has in fact always charged a per-player fee but they have recently changed how it will operate and so you now notice it happening. Previously, it was rolled into the team fee and (we believe) was rather less. FHA has only recently decided to charge a fee.
Though we have no choice in the matter, it is worth asking what we get for our fees. We get the national and provincial programs which directly benefit some members of our club. FHC provides insurance for all players in our leagues which is worthwhile (especially if you are so unfortunate to get hurt in a game). FHA also provides coaching and umpiring clinics though these generally carry an additional fee. If you have any questions or comments about these fees please get in contact with FHC or FHA.
If you have any questions about the fee payment contact treasurer Michael.
