AGM Held April 12th
As is our tradition, the Saracens FHC AGM was held April 12th in the time after the indoor season and
before the outdoor. About 20 members new and old(ish) turned up for the free food, free drink,
awards, fees discount and a little bit of decision making.
For the most part, the AGM ran smoothly and as normal. Perhaps the highlight was the change at the
top of
the club. Dawna Morrow stood down as president after three stirling years (big clappy nice
congratulations to Dawna for her hard work). Tony Stewart put his name forward as a candidate
and was elected unanamously for a second run at the most rewarding job in sports. All other
officeholders stood again and were reelected. The list of Saracens officeholders is
as follows:
- President Tony Stewart
- Secretary/Rep to FHAC David Fettes
- Treasurer/Webmaster Michael Seth
- Social Committee Paul Jacobs and Jason McDougall
- Norm's Lunches Norm Wegerhoff
We would like to thank these people and all others who volunteer their time
to help keep the club running. Special thanks should also go out to
our captains from the last year who were David Simpson, Peadar O'Riain,
Henlo Wiese and Sean Holmes-Smith.
AGM is awards time and a couple of awards should be mentioned.
- President's Award Every year an individual or individuals are honoured
for their great work for the club in a volunteer capacity. This year the
award went to Peadar O'Riain and David Simpson for their effort as captains
over a long period. Captaincy is not always an easy job and these guys have
stepped up time and time again. Thanks to them.
- Outstanding Achievement Award This award is only presented when
a candidate warrents it and this year this certainly was the case. Over the last
few years Field Hockey Alberta has been synonymous with the name Jennie Gilbert.
As general manager, Jennie has been the person most responsible for running the game
in this province over a long period. She has put in long hours of work,
many beyond those specified by the label "part time job." Not only has Jennie
worked very hard but she has done a great job in her post. All of those who
have benefitted from her time, skills and energy would like to thank her for
a job well done. We wish her well in the noble pursuit of trying to
keep up with Ben and Jessica more successfully.
A couple of decisions about money were made at the AGM. The usual decision about team fees
was made and the fees are given in the
usual place. An additional item that came up was that our club is more and more getting involved
in junior players and that our junior fund will need to be maintained to successfully deal with
our junior development goals. To give our Junior Development Fund a constant input, it was decided
that $5 of each player's fee from each outdoor season will go towards the Fund.
For full details of the AGM and other decisions that were made, look at the minutes
of the meeting that are forthcoming.
